Interview to Rodrigo Lozano

ZR:
RL: My interest by wide-awake electronic music from my first contact with this musical sort, by the time of “Gallant�, where they begin to listen to sets of “mixed� electronic music of half an hour approx, and is there there where my curiosity by this sort begins that I catch myself it listens to since it. ZR:
RL: The first influence that I had, and that stays until today in my style like dj, is house of New York, the tribal, sexy and dark half originating sound of NY. My influences clearly come from djs like Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez, Calderone, speaking of my the first influences and most important. But in the way I cannot stop mentioning that the progressive sound also has given its contribution.
But basically my sound this influenced by the Sound of the House Tribal and Twisted of NY, reflected in the nights that towards Hugo in the Buddha by those times.

ZR:
RL: My two more important residences were the one of HOME and my present residence in the MECCA. Of my residence in HOME I have very good memories, is allíi where I had the freedom for the first time to explore when creating atmospheres of a whole night, it is there where they become my well-known sets of 8 hours, and is there where the roll of dj resident is made super important for the first time, since it is the one who gives the musical personality to the site. Nevertheless I must say that it is in the MECCA where all the experience learned throughout my years as dj becomes evident. I adore my present residence in the MECCA, is now when I believe that people really occur counts of the paper of dj resident in a club, is in the MECCA where I have been able to make specific my project to have an own celebration (Twisted Sounds of Lima) and to impregnate it with the sound that has influenced to me from a beginning. In addition it is in the Mecca where I feel a total reciprocity from the public, is communication and understanding than it is wanted to do, it is doing warm-up or touching of headliner.

ZR:
RL: The inspiration comes from the heart and the soul, although it sounds to cliche… To mix is an art form, and as all form of art is to transmit feelings and emotions, which you canalize through music or of the atmosphere that these creating, making music narrow channel those feelings and emotions towards the people who this in the dance track.

ZR:
RL: Advantages? … mmmm…. to gain the bread to me of every day being done what really I like and gets passionate to me. To live on the music that is what it gives to sense life him.

ZR:

ZR:
RL: I believe that in the first place we cannot speak of a scene of raves in Lima, which we have here are celebrations of electronic music, and a scene of clubs and bars.

And secondly, I believe that finally now much people this realizing that to go to a celebration of electronic music is not synonymous to go to explore with a type of drug, fodder and hopefully not this being mistaken, that now people this more “x music�, at least that are what reflects crowd with which I am in contact with the enemy all the week ends in the Mecca.

ZR:
RL: People have the freedom to do what wants with its body, in that sense I cannot judge nobody reason why it likes to do or no, but are necessary to stress that a celebration of mass electronics, as much as one night in a club, is done so that people enjoy the mass one. It does not seem to me that people associate electronics with ecstasy, the essential is music, and in any case the drug must be and is music.

ZR:

RL: Definitively it is a culture.

RL: I have had very many chemistry with djs of House to which I did warm lately to them ups. There has been much chemistry with CLIVE HENRY (Peace Division), PETER BAILEY, personally I enchant warm up that I did to CHRIS FORTIER the first time to him that touched in the MECCA, he began to mix on my Seth and the truth the night developed too much well! , I enchant that night of the last year, musically speaking. ZR:
RL: To speak of Tenaglia is to speak of a “Dj de Dj´s�. Tenaglia is more than 25 years old touching, is somebody that owns an almost encyclopedic knowledge of music dances, from its beginnings with music disc to all the new styles with which always it feels excited to experiment. Each one of the discs that Tenaglia puts in his sets have a sense, that makes be dj so special. Danny is always working obsessively in the material for his sets, every Friday that happens, Saturday already is thinking about which is going to put sgte Friday, it is more or less what I do every Saturday! In addition nobody as Tenaglia has as much famous experience being dj resident of clubs in NY, he is the one who better has known to give concept to their celebrations, everything what he does is loaded of “Sense� more than of “hype�. That makes so special. It is definitively an inspiration for much people of the industry, and definitively its success must to that after 40 years, its work has touched to the heart and the lives of much people.

ZR: What memorable moment as DJ you have to date?
RL: I believe that every night has its special and memorable moment, are many.

ZR: Now that cumplistes a year of your residence in the club the Mecca, you can say to me that so the experience until now?
RL: My residence in the Mecca has been and is a very rewarding experience. I believe that they have very in clear the roll of the resident in a club, and that is the essential, of there part that one like resident of the personality club him and an own sound to the discotheque.
It is in the Mecca where I can put in practices my years of experience like Dj, and mainly my years of resident experience like dj of clubs…. in addition I am very happy with the people who go all the Fridays and can catch that every Friday is different in the club. Every night is special, is doing warm up or touching 8 hours, I believe that I have managed to always communicate to me with crowd, and that is comforting.
In addition I only can say that it is a pleasure to work with so serious people, and so worried to offer the best thing to him to its public, the conscious work and loaded of good wave always one is transformed in success. So there is to continue working hard and that follows the successes.

ZR: This year you have your nights “Twisted Sounds of Lima� where you invite to DJs/producing international nationals and to touch with you, what concept you want to transmit to the public with your nights “TSOL�? and that from is enjoying already it.
RL: Twisted Sounds of Lima is born from the idea to create one night to the month with a concept and a defined type of music. It is born from the idea to have one “night of the club�, one night where dj resident can offer everything what has and that often cannot give because this limited abrir him or to close the invited night to him to djs. TSOL is the unique night in Lima, where the sound of house tribal/twisted/sexy and half dark, dominates the dancefloor. See I it like a history, each of these celebrations is a history, the lines of vision are preparations especially for that night, and also they estan counting a history and being based on a concept. I am preparing sets of those celebrations almost with a month of anticipation, doing intros or re edits special to touch them only in these celebrations, that is there is a work behind the name. One is not simply to make the celebration because if…. one is to create something new, something that is not common, something that not you can to experiment all the aims of week (beginning because you did not listen to that type of music elsewhere), something that will count the history of that night…. it sounds floro, but behind each celebration TSOL there is all this preparation.
And the main thing is that I am happy because people have responded positively from the beginning. It was already hour that people in Lima go to a club because dj national this touching and are demonstrating that a work behind the music exists everything that this putting that night.

ZR: Aside from touching in Lima, also you travel to the foreigner to realize gigs, whereupon place you have remained admired and that you wanted to return again?
RL: I enchant myself to touch in Monterrey/Mexico, the club was super pretty and went to see me like 1500 people, also there am super past good in Santiago, in Chile I have already been several times, and the celebrations have been super good, in Santiago I have touched in a pair of celebrations for more than thousand people, and the leases were incredible (a station of cableway and a castle). More than admired, it has enchanted to touch to people with my music by those lares to me, was perfect connection and it enjoyed it enough to people.

ZR: I have listened to in your sessions in the club the Mecca that you have very good tracks, how you select vinyls, by producers or seals?
RL: I buy everything what I like, but in fact I have some favorite seals and producers. Of them always I buy material that leaves on sale. And in addition I collect some seals, always I am buying old vinyls, some things that easy never will be reedited, and that always will be in favor effective of their musical quality and at the moment that marked.

ZR: Now in your facet like producer next to Felipe Salmon, coméntame what new features you have to us? , what last productions you have until now done? , and if it is in some seal?
RL: With Felipe we have already worked several subjects, one of first was bootleg of TRIMS OFF LOWER BRANCHES OF of the subject “Your not alone� that were touching some djs of here and of outside.
Soon we worked some other subjects like “Heart� and “The way� which estan at this moment making the rounds in a pair of disqueras. There is a subject that is the one that has received MOS support here and in other parts, that acapella of “Music has to answer " l, that track in Chile was being touched much recently… and good, we at this moment have track in a CD compiled by TONY MASS (“DJ SESSIONS BY tONY mASS�) call “Happiness�, and is first track of the compiled one. This compiled CD was sent in Chile in November of the year last through SUM Record, and is first of a series in which tracks of us is had thought to include others.
The truth just we are beginning the work to send cds to the disqueras, the copies of ours tracks have been sent to very little people still, so that work just is beginning for us, who includes the licensing process.
As for me I am at the moment doing many re edits, which I reach in the Mecca all the week ends, and finishing in addition tracks as for me, but that is surprise for more ahead;)… Many of these re edits are part of the intros that I prepare monthly for all celebrations TSOL in the Mecca, so new features are soon going to have many by that side.
In addition or we are working in studio 6 new subjects that they will be finished fodder for the summer, so or I will tell all the new features on the matter you.

ZR: As far as the production subject, whereupon voice you would like to work of a Peruvian singer?
RL: Of the last things that we are doing in the study, we are working in track vocal, but to only I can advance you that it is not any well-known voice, to choose that is going to sing track, is necessary to obtain the voice that goes with the concept than it is wanted to transmit, so I prefer thousand times to obtain a good voice, that not necessarily it must be well-known.

ZR: What opinion deserves to you that the productions of Israel Vich & Christian Berger are in several charts of important DJs foreign?
RL: The truth I have not been able to listen to the last productions of Israel & Christian, but it seems very well to me that they are reaching the goals that set out, and I believe that one of those goals was to be able to license his tracks this year. Not at the moment which is the music style that they are doing, for that reason I cannot comment to you much on the matter, but much luck for them and who follow the successes!

ZR: Which you think that it has been your greater profit like DJ until now?
RL: To have my own night was one of the things that wanted a long time ago. Profits? mmm, as I said it before to you, if it touches to somebody one night with my music, that already is a profit than more sufficient for me.

ZR: Which are your projects in the short term?
RL: This year I have dedicated much to organize my nights and in working material for the same, really I have been re publishing many things, and in addition concentrating to me to plenty in the production subject. It is for that reason perhaps that I have not left much outside east Peru year like previous years. But in the short term, the subject to license some tracks with foreign seals has the priority. The subject of the internationalization, or began 2 years ago that it was the first time that I was in Mexico (nobody whole jajajaja), but gigs outside Lima is or in agenda beginning in December.

ZR: Who are your DJs/producing favorites at this moment?
RL: Ufff, many to name them jajaja now. Some are Peace Division, Peter Bailey, Evolved, Murk, Pete tha Zouk, Chus & Ceballos, Low End Specialists, Montanari Robert, Dj Vibe, Dj Jiggy, Rui/the Coco gives Whistles, and many more.

What thinks generally of the Limean scene and the Peruvian scene?
RL: Just this year I see a change of attitude, abierta mind more and true it brings back to consciousness musical. People this deciding more on music and the celebration, that by the drug and hype. I see a scene in the heat of process of fast growth, see a club that fulfills for the first time the roll of CLUB in Lima, I see more djs, I see younger people interested in electronic music, are the new generations that within 3 years will have much more culture than the people of now, and I see that now people can choose between different options, everything according to which they prefer as far as tastes and tendencies… I see since we have grown.

RL: Alternative music, from the punk to electro of the 80.

What other styles aside from house it would like to mix?
RL: I am beginning to mix some things of chill out, and downtempo house, enchants super house to me slow with influences of jazz and disc. Soon there will be new features;)

RL: Now more than ever I see many new djs making the rounds by our scene, and that is pleasant to me, the competition is super good it forces because us to all to surpass to us and for working more duro. Of new djs that I have listened, lately, it seems to me that Greater Kike is the one who has defined a little plus an own style, that I I consider it very important.

Which has been your better night in the Mecca?
RL: Responding the second question, all my nights in the Mecca are special, but I cannot deny that of the last ones, the date that could not come Donald Glaude he was incredible. To touch a so long Seth, and almost for 2000 people was very inspiring for my, I believe that night I could touch to much people with my work, and that was super rewarding. For the first time a Seth of 8 hours for 2000 people, who caught the message and followed history at night. Well by that celebration!

RL: The unique production that has left to the market until now finds in a CD mixed by dj Swiss Tony Mass, is first track of the compiled one and “Happiness� is called, the CD left on sale in November of the 2002. My other productions only have some djs of here and outside Peru, but at the moment they are not so available because they are in licensing process: (so there will be to hope just a little bit;).
